PROGRAM BACKGROUND With funding from the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, the Common Humanitarian Fund and the Basic Services Fund, International Medical Corps is currently implementing a nutrition program in Jonglei State. IMC’s programs use the community-based management of acute malnutrition model, promotion of infant and young child feeding and behavior change communication to mitigate malnutrition.
JOB SUMMARY The Nutrition program manager oversees the nutritional activities in International Medical Corps programs in South Sudan.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES •Ensure that the implementation of the nutrition programs conform to internationally accepted standards and country guidelines •Ensure appropriate financial management of program related budget lines, develop and implement work plans. •Provide technical support and supervision on nutrition activities to national and international staff implementing nutrition programs in South Sudan •Provide guidance to staff implementing the International Medical Corps South Sudan program on the integration of a nutrition component into other sectors as appropriate •Provide technical leadership and support for conducting nutrition and coverage surveys, prepare reports and generate discussion within the nutrition coordination forums for any issues that need to be addressed jointly. •In collaboration with partners (MoH, WFP and UNICEF) support field sites with the organization of the logistics of food commodities. •Assist in compiling the nutrition activities inputs to donor project reports and proposals, and take the lead if needed. •Assess the training needs of nutrition and MoH staff and develop a training program to meet these needs, focusing on all aspects of community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), infant and Young child feeding and Behavior Change Communication. •Ensure the establishment and strengthening of nutrition monitoring activities and train health staff (IMC, MOH, and local NGO) in case detection and referral mechanisms. •Conduct and train health staff on surveys including nutrition and coverage surveys, causal analysis, and other assessments of nutritional status of target groups. •Report properly and in a appropriate time all relevant nutritional information required for the comprehensive development of the nutrition programs •Represent International Medical Corps in Nutrition Cluster and attend other relevant Nutrition related meetings •Lead the development of new nutrition programs, including assessments, proposal writing/development and donor outreach.
QUALIFICATIONS •Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of relevant work experience (minimum 5 years in developing country or emergency response); or a master’s degree and 5+ years of relevant work experience (minimum 3 years in developing country or emergency response) •Work experience in CMAM, IYCF and BCC required •Program development and management experience in a humanitarian and/or emergency situation required, including all aspect of program cycle management •Very strong writing skills in English required; Proven experience writing high-quality proposals, reports and external communication materials required. •Ability to train national and international staff on state-of-the-art approaches to nutrition response in emergencies •Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills to plan projects, develop timetables for agreed activities and oversee staff activities •Strong organizational and supervisory skills; •Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments, •Demonstrate a flexible approach to managing and prioritizing a high workload and multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines •Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently •Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations •Ability to relate to and motivate staff effectively •Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources. •Ability and willingness to travel to rural locations and live in basic conditions. •Previous experience working for an international NGO in developing countries required •Previous experience in Sub-Saharan Africa desired
LANGUAGES •Ability to speak, read, write, analyze and interpret, technical and non-technical in English •Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to questions from peers, government representatives and donors •Excellent writing skills – particularly for proposals, reports and external publications
