JOB TITLE: PROGRAM OFFICER (1 POST)
– (REF: EAC/HR/2012/35)
Grade: Consolidated Salary equivalent to P2 EAC Staff Grade
Department: Peace and Security
Reports to: EAC/AU Liaison Officer
Duration of Contract: 32 Months Fixed Term (Non-Established)
Station: AU Commission Secretariat in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Main purpose of the job
Assist the EAC/AU Liaison Officer in day-to-day activities in implementing the African
Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) Support Programme.
Duties and responsibilities
1.1 Assist the Office of the Liaison Officer in the implementation of daily activities
1.2 Prepare reports and other technical documents as necessary
1.3 Participate in the ongoing initiatives towards the African Union Continental
Integration Agenda
1.4 Arrange facilitate meetings between the Liaison officer AU Departments and
Development Partner with interest in EAC.
1.5 Liaise with Contact persons at EAC in identifying key stakeholders in the region in
the relevant fields with the view of building their capacity and enhancing their
respective roles;
1.6 Participate in meetings with or on behalf of EAC/Liaison officer including building
networks and sustain good working relations with regional institutions of interest.
1.7 Build and maintain contacts with established partners and key international and
regional bodies including the AU, UNECA, NEPAD among others.
Qualifications and experience:
Minimum of a first degree or equivalent in political studies, Economics,
Business/Public Administration from a recognized University with preferably a
Postgraduate Diploma, MA in the relevant fields. Specialized training in
Military Strategic Studies, Peace and security, and International relations studies
is an added advantage.
Minimum 3 years of working experience at senior professional level with
Government or intergovernmental organizations in the EAC Region, preferably
in the area of Office Administration and Human Resources Management
Skills and Competencies:
Report writing and project development skills.Team player with capability to work
with multi disciplinary and multi nationality professionals. Ability to work under
minimum supervision and when necessary to put in long hours of work. Proficiency in
the use of office computer programs including Word, Excel, Power point, access and
internet, as well as good communication skills.
Should preferably bea holder of a valid Driving License
Knowledge of other AU languages like French, Portuguese, Arabic and Kiswahili will
be an added advantage.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
This is a non-established position supported by donor funds whose contract terms and
conditions are limited to the availability of funding.
The above position will be subjected to the EAC quota system.
